In January 2011, Ian Angus and Ian Thurlbeck established a new North East based Retail Property Practice trading as @retail. The team welcomed Bob Fletcher in 2014.

We are unique in our ability to offer ‘on the spot’ advice from a team of local experts, all of whom are from the Region and have spent the majority of their careers immersed within it.

Between us we offer advice on all aspects of retail property including High Street Agency, Shopping Centre Leasing, Investment, Development, Professional Services and strategic Consultancy advice.

Hailing from North Tyneside, Ian qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1989 and has a wealth of experience gained from working Client side with a national retailer before sharpening his Agency skills with Chesterton, followed by the establishment of Glen Davison Angus, a niche retail agency practice in 1995. A founding member of @retail in 2011, Ian’s expertise is in Shopping Centre and High Street lettings and acquisitions covering all sectors of the evolving High Street mix including Leisure and F&B as well as Retail.

Originally from Darlington, Ian qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1998 and has spent his entire working life in the North East. He has worked for a variety of firms in the region, including an International Property Consultancy, National Retailer and was a Director at a National firm of Surveyors before going it alone in 2007 and becoming a founding member of @retail in 2011.

Ian advises a number of clients including Sainsburys, Greggs and Franks the Flooring Store. He also acts for a variety of Developers, Landlords and Local Authorities in the region.

Pete Townsend – Agency Surveyor

Pete joined @retail after graduating from Northumbria University in 2017 with a First Class Honours Degree in Real Estate. Prior to this Pete gained experience within the Retail Agency team at Carter Towler in Leeds. In 2020 Pete obtained his MRICS qualification. He provides Retail Agency services to Landlords and Tenants alike across the North East region in the High Street, Shopping Centre and Out of Town sectors.

Jonathan Chapman - Agency Surveyor

Jonathan joined the Team in 2020 having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2001. He has spent 20 plus years working actively in the region at niche practice Smith Cole Wright. He has vast experience in the region’s retail property market offering wide ranging advice to Landlords and Tenants alike including McDonalds Restaurants, Topps Tiles, Clinton Cards, SIG, Entain Group (formerly Ladbrokes Coral) and Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

Sarah Hart – Agency Surveyor

Sarah qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2005 and has worked in the retail property sector throughout her career. During this time Sarah has gained experience with Sanderson Weatherall, @retail and intu. She has advised a wide range of clients including national retailers and institutional Landlords.

Having taken a career break in 2017 Sarah returned to @retail in 2019 on a part-time basis, providing retail agency services for a variety of Landlords and Local Authorities as well as acquisition advice to Greggs.

Andrew Dennis – Consultant

Andrew started his career at Sanderson Weatherall's Newcastle office gaining his professional qualification in 2009 before setting up independently in 2012. He brings Lease Advisory expertise to the business as a Landlord and Tenant consultant specialising in rent review and lease renewal negotiations. In addition Andrew is an RICS Registered Valuer.
